Calligraphy Course

1. Calligraphy with Tuscan colours
Inspired by the Tuscan landscape and the atmosphere of Villa Palagione this course will introduce you to the Humanist Cursive Script, a scripture from Renaissance times. Using this as well as the colours from the surrounding landscapes, e.g. the so-called "Terra di Siena" we will create scripts which will reflect the spirit of Italian Renaissance. The course will be completed by a visit to the museum of Volterra as well as a one-day excursion.

2. Renaissance Writing Art
In Renaissance times Italy was in the vanguard of all possible arts, including illumination and calligraphy. During this era handmade books were adorned with magnificent calligraphies and elaborate paintings. This course, with the help of practical exercises will introduce you to the Humanist Cursive Script, being the earliest scripture of Renaissance, as well as the adornment of texts through illumination techniques. Inspired by historical patterns, a visit to the museum of Volterra and a one-day excursion you will create artworks from your own designs.
