New 2010: Calligraphy Course

In the Middle Ages as well as in Renaissance times the hand-made books were adorned with magnificent calligraphies and elaborate paintings in the style of their times.

This book art is the subject of our seminar. In practical exercises you will learn different writing styles such as humanist minuscules or the adorning of writings with illuminations. The seminar also deals with the gbestiaryh, a style created in the 13th century in which fantastic animals, mythical creatures and plants entwine around the handwritten scriptures and illustrate in mys terious manner mediaeval imagery.

Finally, inspired by his toric artwork as well as a visits to the museum of Volterra you will create your own illustrations.
