Reflexive Architecture of Arthur Dyson

After the highly regarded exhibition in 2007 on the event of the 140th birthday of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, precursor of modern and organic architecture, the association "Amici di Frank Lloyd Wright" is proud to present a further themed exhibition in October 2009. “Touching the Soul" presents the Californian architect Arthur Dyson along with his completed and projected works.

Arthur Dyson is an outstanding talent amongst the American architects. He created his first projects at the early age of 13, and at 18 he was the youngest student at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture in Taliesin. The work of Arthur Dyson reflect a complete fusion of the organic components of his three famous teachers - Frank Lloyd Wright, Bruce Goff and William Gray - manifesting themselves in a kaleidoscope-like repertoire, characterized by a strong individuality which integrates his philosophical and psychological knowledge. Each of his projects are given his complete commitment and he is always capable to find solutions - even on projects that seem impossible. He develops a sheer inexhaustible creativity especially when facing particularly complex architectural challenges.

Arthur Dyson was born in 1940 in Hawthorne, one of the suburbs in the limitless circumference of Los Angeles. During his training in Frank Lloyd Wright's studio and later with Bruce Goff in Bartlesville he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and University of Oklahoma at Norman. He achieved his Master's Degree in Architecture at the Institute of Architecture in San Francisco. After receiving a further degree in philosophy and psychology he established his own studio in Fresno, California in 1969. In his almost 40 year professional career he created more than 700 projects among which over 125 received highly regarded national and international awards. In 1997 he has been given the "Bruce Goff Chair for Creative Architecture" at the University of Oklahoma, and between 1998 and 2001 he was decan of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture in Talesien and Taliesin West.

More than 400 publications and dozens of books deal with his work and his strong individual and social engagement which shows his deeply philantrophical background. His work presented in countless exhibitions as well as his conferences have spread his fame around the world from Europe to Japan.
